Let's talk about it – once more!
Dear friends and colleagues,
We all know and realise that even common endoscopic procedures are causing a constant rate of complications. Modern therapeutic endoscopy, therefore, demands an even greater and new awareness of critical incidences and complications associated with applications far extended to standard procedures.

Aims of our symposium are to

  identify critical incidences and complications
  communicate unforeseen events
develop strategies to avoid or minimise complications
demonstrate therapeutical measures for the eventuality of a complication

A highlight of our symposium will be the state-of-the-art lecture by Prof. Peter B Cotton, MD FRCP FRCS, from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) at Charleston, SC, USA.
Peter Cotton has not only been a pioneer in endoscopy, but was also one of the first endoscopists who published and talked on the treatment and prevention of complications.
We are proud that Peter Cotton accepted our invitation and lets us share his lifelong experiences in his lecture on adverse events: reflections and projections.

Honorary president of the 2. International Symposium on Complications in GI Endoscopy is Prof. Dr. Drs. h.c. Meinhard Classen, former director of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Technical University Munich, Hospital rechts der Isar.
Meinhard Classen’s importance for modern endoscopy is legendary, he influenced therapeutic endoscopy like no one else, for example, by introduction of ERCP and EPT. He received prizes for his scientific work all over the world and we are honoured that he accepted to be honorary president of this symposium.

Very special thanks go to the members of the Scientific Committee who put a lot of personal engagement in helping select topics and renowned speakers to make this symposium a useful tool for every endoscopist in his everyday clinical work.
The Scientific Committee and I invite you to come to Hannover in June 2011, listen to the experts’ lectures and share your experiences with the other participants in our working groups. We would especially encourage you and your staff to send in relevant abstracts. Selected abstracts will be presented as lectures in the main programme, all others will be presented in a poster exhibition.

Looking forward to meeting you in June!
